About Me
My name is Jennifer Corson and I am a transition year student in St.Gerards school in bray. As part of our transition year curriculum each pupil must create a blog. On the blog, I will be recording all of my exciting adventures of TY including work experience, community service, school trips, modules, gaisce and more! Hope you enjoy!
My Transition Year Hopes
Transition Year is a year to promote the personal, social, educational and vocational development of pupils and to prepare them for their roles as participative and responsible members of society.
Transition Year is a year of learning, exploring and deciding. For my transition year I hope to get involved as much as possible and really benefit from he opportunity and time of transition year and gain many new experiences.
One way in which decision-making plays a part in TY is through work experience. I have organised work experience in real estate and advertising- both of which I have a real interest in. I am excited to do work experience and see what it is actually like to work in these places and discover if I would still be interested in working in these kinds of plans in the future. I hope to value my work experience and I hope it guides me when choosing my leaving cert subjects and potential career path.
Another huge aspect of transition year in St.Gerard's is extra curricular activities. I hope to take part in the scuba diving course in the National Aquatic Centre. I have never been scuba diving before and it something that I have always wanted to try. I am also going to a law firm and taking part inSteer Clear, a driving course. I think that these activities will add to the learning and exploring of transition year.
This year I am taking part in Gaisce. Gaisce is a personal development programme for young people. In order to achieve a Gaisce award, I must engage in four separate activities; a community involvement, a personal skill, a physical recreation and an adventure journey. I am excited to take part in Gaisce as I believe it will be a great opportunity to give back to my community and develop my skills.
During transition year each form completes a rotation of modules. These modules include: mindfulness, careers, sex education, public speaking, technology, leadership, politics and art appreciation. The modules allow students to develop their teamwork skills and get involved in class discussion.
In February our whole year will take part in the Transition Year Musical. This will be great to perform on stage with my classmates. I am really looking forward to it and can't wait to find out which musical we will be performing!
I hope to go on the Camino walk in Santiago at the end of the school year. My sister went on this trip and I received great feedback. I am really excited for this and think it will be an Excellent end to a great year!
