Gaisce
This year as I am in Transition Year, I feel I have loads of time to take part in activities that will challenge me ! I decided this year to take part in Gaisce and work hard in order to achieve the bronze Gaisce Presidential award. Gaisce is a personal development programme for young people. In order to achieve a Gaisce Bronze award, I must engage in four separate activities; a community involvement, a personal skill, a physical recreation and an adventure journey. I am excited to take part in Gaisce as I believe it will be a great opportunity to give back to my community and develop my skills.
For my Community involvement, I am participating in Young Social Innovators in school. Young Social Innovators is an extra curricular charity group within school that you have to be selected to be apart of it. We chose homelessness as the topic of our project to tackle. Throughout the year we hope to help the homeless people in Ireland by working with organisations such as: Tiglin, Peter Mc Verry and Focus Ireland. I participate in YSI every Friday morning for first period.
For my new personal skill, I am participating in pottery for an hour every Wednesday. This is a 13 week course, taught by Mr O'Connor. I have never done pottery before and am very excited to get started!
For my physical skill, I am participating in hockey in my local hockey club year. Last year I trained in my Club twice weekly for under 16's. Although this year I have taken the plunge and decided to put myself forward to play as part of the ladies senior team. I train every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday after school hockey. Therefore, I train hockey and play matches 10 times a week. I have enjoyed the new skill set and faster play this year so far.
As for my adventure activity my year and I participated in a camping trip in early September when the Junior Certificate Examinations came out. I have written about this event previously.
I can't wait to continue my experience with Gaisce

Physical recreation
For Gaisce I must take part in a type physical recreation outside of school. I am part of bray hockey club. I play on two teams for bray, the ladies 2s and the U16s As. I am captain of the U16 team. I train three times a week with Bray and play two matches every weekend. I have decided to use my hockey training as my 26 week Gaisce involvement.
For Gaisce I must also develop a new skill. I have chosen to take part in a 13 week pottery course in school, taught by Mr O'Connor. So far, I have really enjoyed pottery and have fun making new things.

Community Involvement
For my Community Involvement, I am taking part in YSI. YSI stands for Young Social Innovators. Our YSI Group meet every Friday morning for an hour. This year, our project is based on homelessness. I hope to really make a difference and get truly involved as a part of YSI.
